Topic: Edirol R-09 and external Microphone

Hi all,

Another newby to the world of sound.

I will almost certainly order an Edirol R-09, but I am wondering about an external microphone.

Does anyone have experience with the Edirol CS-15?

I have seen other posts relating to the Audio-Technica AT897, which leads will I need to plug that into an R-09?

Also, does the Rycote softie for the AT897 need another pistol grip thingy for hand holding?

Thanks for your wisdom and patience.

Re: Edirol R-09 and external Microphone

I would get the handle if you have the budget, but you don't need it to use the softie with the mic.

That mic uses a medium hole handle:

Also, you'll need an XLR female to mini male cable if you're using it with the Edirol.

I would get one that puts the mono signal from the mic to both channels on the mini.

Re: Edirol R-09 and external Microphone

thanks Joe,

I'm a bit further along now, there is so much to absorb and now a radio journalist friend has mentioned the Sennheiser DRM 85, a flash recorder built into a microphone, perfect for him and stand up interviews, not so sure about it for gathering sound bits.......does anyone use this, any views?

Re: Edirol R-09 and external Microphone

depending on your budget, (low budget) have you thought about a mini disk recorder from ebay and spending the money you save on a better mic? I have been buying sony MZ-R55's for about £40 max and teaming them up with a Rode NTG2 which has been giving me good results.
