Topic: Advise on embedding html5_compatible projects

Greetings,
I have a presentation which uses the html5_compatible shell which I wish to embed into another web page. I uploaded the project and used the embedding tool to generate the code. However the first page I get after entering the URL displays this message:

Your slide show is HTML5 compatible.
Please use the built-in embed code generator for HTML5 compatible slide shows.

A link is then provided which generates the embedding code. This raises a few questions I hope can be answered here:

I can find no reference in the software or manuals to a built-in embed code generator, does this exist and if so how can I access it?

Does this mean that the generated embed code is not html5 compatible? If so how can I make it so?

I've tried the alternate embedding tool as well, it does not present me with any messages but the code that it generates is quite different, is it html5 compatible?

Thanks in advance. I'm using V1.9.4 r1183, love the software and bought the pro version.

Hi, and thanks for trying the new template.

There's limited documentation at this time, mainly because HTML5 is so new. We'll try to get it added in the next week or so. HTML5 requires a newer style embed code (using an "iframe").  The built-in generator creates that type of code.

The code from the built-in generator (via the link from the embed tool) is HTML5 compatible.

The alternate tool does not generate HTML5 code. It only creates the old-style Flash embed code.

Overall, HTML5 was (and continues to be) a big change in web publishing.  The standards for HTML5 are still evolving.

Hope that helps.  Let me know if you have any follow-up questions. I'm here to answer anything.

Thanks for the reply, it does help.

As it happened our web developer figured out the iframe thing on his own and engineered it into the CMS we're using so we're all set to start rolling out slideshows.

Re: Advise on embedding html5_compatible projects

Hi Joe,

Can you help with this?

I use the embed facility: http://tools.soundslides.com/embed/ for my HTML5 compatible show - then i get the below message

"Your slide show is HTML5 compatible.

Please use the built-in embed code generator for HTML5 compatible slide shows.

Click the link below to generate your embed code.

http://www.bngimages.com/lifelens/ss_clips/family_1/?embedcode"

...and when I click the link above I get a black page. Any ideas?

I was using the embed facility just fine some weeks ago with what I'm pretty sure was an HTML5 compatible show. Has something changed?

any help gratefully received

Re: Advise on embedding html5_compatible projects

Hi Brian,

We do check the user forum periodically, but the best and fastest way to get in touch with us is via the help request system on our website, or by emailing support@soundslides.com (both go to the same place).

I'm sorry for the issue with the embedding code. This is a shortcoming of our online embedding tool. For Flash embedding, it will accept a URL for a slide show that does not include "/index.html" at the end, but without the complete URL, it will not give you the correct link to your HTML5-compatible slide show's built-in code generator. For HTML5-compatible slide shows, you do not actually need the embedding tool. You can just add "?embedcode" to the end of the slide show's complete URL to access the built-in embedding code generator. For instance:

http://www.bngimages.com/lifelens/ss_clips/family_1/index.html

... would be ...

http://www.bngimages.com/lifelens/ss_clips/family_1/index.html?embedcode

However, it does not appear that there is a working slide show at the URL you provided. You may need to check and make sure that all of the files uploaded correctly. Also, if the page background is set to black, it may not be possible to read the embedding code. The page background color will not show when you embed, so you may want to change it back to white.
